The Science Behind Konjac
What is Konjac?
At ZERO, we believe healthier food should be backed by sound nutrition and quality ingredients.
A key ingredient used throughout the ZERO range is Konjac flour, a natural dietary fibre derived from the root of the Konjac plant (Amorphophallus konjac). For more than 1,400 years, konjac has been enjoyed throughout Japan and China as part of a traditional diet.
Konjac is naturally rich in glucomannan, a soluble dietary fibre that has been extensively researched for its potential role in supporting digestive health, healthy cholesterol levels, blood glucose management and feelings of fullness.
Our Certified Organic Konjac Noodles, Konjac Rice, Konjac Fettuccine and Konjac Lasagna contain the highest proportion of Konjac flour, while our Low Carb Rice, High Protein Rice and High Protein Noodles also incorporate Konjac flour as part of carefully balanced ingredient blends designed to deliver different nutritional benefits.
Scientific Research
Over the past three decades, glucomannan has been the subject of numerous peer-reviewed clinical studies investigating its role in a variety of health areas.
The research below provides an overview of some of the published scientific literature.
Digestive Health
Research has investigated glucomannan for its potential role in supporting normal digestive function and bowel regularity.
Clinical Studies
Blood Glucose & Metabolic Health
Several studies have explored the effects of glucomannan on blood glucose control and metabolic health.
Clinical Studies
• Effect of Konjac food on blood glucose level in patients with diabetes
Heart Health & Cholesterol
Research has also examined glucomannan for its potential effects on cholesterol and blood lipid levels.
Clinical Studies
• Effect of short-term ingestion of konjac glucomannan on serum cholesterol in healthy men
Weight Management & Satiety
Because glucomannan absorbs water and forms a natural gel, researchers have investigated its role in promoting fullness and supporting weight management when consumed as part of a calorie-controlled diet.
Clinical Studies
• Childhood obesity treatment: Double-blind trial of dietary glucomannan versus placebo
• Safety and efficacy of glucomannan for weight loss in overweight and moderately obese adults
Our Commitment to Evidence-Based Nutrition
At ZERO, we believe nutrition should be supported by credible scientific research. The studies referenced on this page have been published in peer-reviewed scientific journals and are provided for educational purposes.
While glucomannan has been extensively studied, many clinical trials used purified or concentrated forms under controlled research conditions. The findings should not be interpreted as applying equally to every ZERO product, as ingredient composition, serving sizes and nutritional profiles vary across our range.
ZERO products are foods designed to be enjoyed as part of a healthy, balanced diet and active lifestyle. They are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
If you have a medical condition, are pregnant, or have specific dietary requirements, we recommend consulting your healthcare professional before making significant dietary changes.
Healthy Alternatives. Without Compromise.
